Impeachment

I've always been in favor of impeaching George.  He lied.  He got us into a war based on those lies. And, sadly, I just don't like him.  But my old boss, Congressman Jay Inslee, gives an argument against it in today's Seattle Times, arguing that it will do nothing to help get our troops home because impeachment cripples congress.

Evil Wikipedia

That evil wikipedia.  Talking about evolution, gravity, and the roundness of the earth as if they are facts.  Literally, I thank God for His newest online encyclopedia, sanctioned by Him, written for Him, and about Him.

Colored Smokes

Sitting around Thailand and thinking up get rich quick schemes is technically a hobby, but since it occupies much of my free time, I'll count it.  This trip to Siboya www.siboyabungalows.com , my friend and I had a brilliant marketing idea. Colored cigarettes.  Pastels for the ladies.  Black for the tough guys and well, cartoons for the kiddies.  It's all been done.  Countless times.

Google search results:

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,020,000 for colored cigarettes

Like more than 1,000,000.

I'm so disenheartened by this news that I haven't even bothered to check for the amazing Erection Lighter. (last year's great idea)  I guess that means another year in in the 'Ju.

O Canadia

The infamous Todd Kelley of Seoul, Korea sings a song extolling the virtues of Canada. A kind of new anthem, O Canadia talks about many great things about Canadia: Tim Horton's, BC Bud.....

That's why I was surprised to read the following Stranger Slog posting the other day.  Apparently, the Canadians are giving Americans a hard time when crossing the border if they have drug convictions or DUIs.  I think it's BS.  Is Canada becoming the new America?

Remaining Boomers

OK, I'm talking about Baby Boomers now and how there's this twisted web site which I will soon list that counts the number of dead baby boomers.  I can only speculate that this is some me-generation (Gen. X-my generation's) idea of a funny joke, or perhaps a particularly morbid boomer constantly pondering his own demise.  What up?

And, you may ask- why am I posting it?  I don't think I'm that twisted, but it is interesting in a bizarre funny-strange kind of way.  Plus, I've got some time to kill before class and nothing to do.

Stay the Course

This is a great little article (satire, of course) on the Bush administration's ever-ending search for euphemisms to term the Iraq war in terms more palatable to the public.

Worst Superhero Names

I know I am far too easily entertained at the best of times, and when I'm in my office between classes, it's even worse.  Check out this list of not so amazing superhero names.  My personal fave on the list is the "Absorber".  Sounds really scary, doesn't it? I'd sure hate to meet him in a dark urine-drenched alley at 4am on a Tuesday.......

Beeboo

Today, we got the news that Pete's Grandma, Beeboo, passed away in her sleep.  She died of mouth cancer, likely caused from cigarette smoking, though she quit years ago.

She was an amazing woman, really strong and efficient and had a great sense of humor. She shared my lack of enthusiasm for the present administration.  She loved nothing better than a good margarita or playing the slots at the Palm Springs casinos or a night of MahJong with her many friends.  She is loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

As she left this world, I wonder how she was feeling, knowing that life would continue on without her.  At 35, knowing that most English teachers here are in their early 20's, I question how people can have the audacity to be born after me, to actually be adults already, yet younger than me. I have yet to face my own insignificance in this world, but it's looming.

I'm at school, so I don't have a margarita glass in my hand, but if I did, I'd definitely drink one for Beeboo.

Daylighted River

Here in The Stranger, Seattle's best alternative paper, is an article about Seoul's very own daylighted river, complete with more before and after pictures.  What a change.  I remember walking near the freeways years ago when we first moved to Seoul-what a difference to now.

I'm an Aunt!

The Best things about Korea, according to Johnny Guitar

Johnny Guitar has come and gone from Korea.

He was really, really impressed by:

1.  The Linoleum that looks like a hard-wood floor.
2.  The fake palm trees that line the streets of downtown Chungju.
3.  The cheap strings of tube-like lights that you can buy at any  market in Korea.

****He also liked the service button in restaurants and bars.  Although this didn't make his top 3, we "let" him push the button every time.

He was underwhelmed by:

1.  Korean food.  He couldn't recognize anything and ate don kass everyday.
2.  Bali, bali.  He's now in Thailand where everything is cha, cha. (slowly, slowly, as opposed to quickly , quickly.)
3.  Seoul.
4.  The Fight Club, which Pete and I made him watch on our computer.  "I loved the first 89 minutes, but the ending totally ruined the movie for me."  (although not technically Korean, the movie was a big part of his experience here when he was sick and couldn't go out."

Tom Cruise Butt Plug, Part 2

http://www.pugbus.net/artman/publish/10072006_11_cruiseplug.shtml

I'm really embarrassed about this one.  I posted that I actually thought it was real, without taking the time to read the obviously very funny and very tongue in cheek article about the butt plug.  In my universe, it would have been true.

Viva Las Vegas

Maybe it's just me that thinks this is weird- Las Vegas strippers can't get within two feet of their clientele. No more mind-numbing body-exciting lap dances in Sin City. Seattle, on the other hand, just put down a ballot measure that would have forced dancers a full four feet away from their clients....(the measure received about 78% of the votes AGAINST).

I always thought that prostitution was legal in Las Vegas, a fact upheld by movies like Leaving Las Vegas and the fact that a full forty percent of the women in Las Vegas casinos dress like hookers. Well, it's not. Apparently, it's legal elsewhere in Nevada, but not in so-called sin city. HMMMM.

One Big Happy Family

Is it just me or does Dick "the dick" Cheney look fatter?  Johnny says his middle name is probably "Head".  Can somebody please give this guy just one more cheeseburger.....? or give the guy next to him a pretzel?  Our treat. I'll even break my no McDonald's policy for this one....

It's about time

Our Canadian friend Johnny who is visiting for three weeks gave me a high five as I walked in the door yesterday.  I don't know if I was more excited about the Senate or about my little friend Rumsfeld getting served up on a platter as the proverbial "sacrificial lamb".  If I didn't have this nasty South Korean cold to contend with, I'd be jubilant.  I have been around enough naysayers to doubt how much the Dems. will use their newfound power.  I did hear through a reliable, if overly skeptical, source that the Dems. have already taken impeachment off of the table.  Although I would like to see these evil men (and condi) and their greedy little minds fry, I think there's serious work to be done.

First, Iraq.  We have such a mess there.  Admittedly, it's something I don't know enough about to offer the best solution.  Nor do I trust the powers that be.  I will, however, be extremely angry if more money gets sent over there to be funnelled into the pockets of Halliburton execs and their fair cronies.

next, domestically, it's a mess.  Bush and co. have brought up all of these Orwellian/Draconian measures to restrict the American people in the so-called name of security.  We have a crippling defecit that has taken away or threatened the programs we need.

Sorry, not too much of a news flash there.  On the light side, Miller sales have gone up 7 percent.  I don't know if it's Miller that people should be drinking, but I take it as a positive sign that people are drinking more.  Let the good times roll!

Good ole US of A

The US army head honcho dude has said that the US has enough troops to take on North Korea if need be.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/10/13/army-chief-we-have-suffi_n_31671.html?p=5

I really hope that he's just blowing smoke for a decidedly dumb bluff with our esteemed leader to the North instead of smoking some of that Bush crackpipe that keeps leading us into war after war....

On related news, I am strongly urging everybody to get out and votes in the United States.  If the Democrats take back Congress, Bush will not be able to pass as much legislation.  I am definitely afraid that there will be some election fraud, however.  Please take a stand if the Republicans win a lot of seats in this year's election because it is nearly statistically impossible for them to do so given voter dissatisfaction with Iraq and Bush and Company.
